The Tourism, Gaming and the Arts committee of the New Jersey legislature began holding hearings as to whether Daily Fantasy Sports constitutes gambling.

The answer to that question is likely “yes” as legislators in 2006 found it necessary to stipulate fantasy sports as a legal form of gambling with its passage of the Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act (UIGEA) along with state lotteries and horse racing.

The next issue on the agenda may be the most difficult to address:  How to regulate Daily Fantasy Sports.

So far, the owner of Atlantic City’s former Revel casino has proposed using it as an indoor water park, a medical tourism resort, an equestrian facility and a so-called “genius academy” where the world’s top minds would tackle society’s problems.

LAS VEGAS (AP) - The industry group representing casinos, racetracks and sports books in 40 states where gambling is legal wants there to be no confusing it for illegal gambling linked to violent organized crime.

The news has been filing in via Twitter about the case, the result of which had been anticipated for months. The U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals held the status quo, which is sports betting cannot take place in New Jersey:

In 2014, New Jersey had passed a law that would allow sports betting to take place at its casinos.

The professional sports leagues in the U.S. (NBA, NFL, MLB and NHL), the NCAA and the U.S. Department of Justice took New Jersey to court over the law, trying to keep the ban in place. The leagues won in the lower court before again winning this appeal.

Atlantic City Mayor Don Guardian disclosed college officials' interest in real estate at an economic forum in Burlington County Wednesday, the newspaper reported.
